Build the Next Generation of Neural Computation
We welcome experimental, computational and hybrid scientists who want to understand how molecular organization and synaptic transmission become circuit dynamics, movement and adaptive behavior. Our lab combines rigorous neuroscience with interpretable AI to move from observation toward predictive mechanism.
Where You Can Make an Impact
Decode natural movement with multi-view 3D pose estimation, multimodal neural recordings, causal perturbation and interpretable behavioral models.
Build functional maps of neurotransmitter release using optical assays, CRISPR perturbation, quantitative imaging, transcriptomics and machine learning.
Connect nanoscale active-zone organization to release, circuit dynamics and behavior through super-resolution microscopy and predictive AI.
Projects draw on electrophysiology, optogenetics, optical neurotransmitter sensors, molecular engineering, functional imaging, quantitative behavior, high-throughput screening and open-source computation. We encourage people who want to cross traditional disciplinary boundaries.
Current Opportunities
Research Assistant
Support core research programs while developing advanced experimental and quantitative skills. Responsibilities may include neuronal culture, mouse-colony work, optical or electrophysiological assays, data quality control and laboratory operations.
Ideal background: BS or MS in biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, medicine, physics, engineering or a related field; careful record keeping and strong communication skills.
Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Scientist
Lead an independent project within one or more of our three research directions. We especially welcome candidates in systems or cellular neuroscience, optical physiology, super-resolution microscopy, molecular biology, biophysics, behavioral computation, machine learning and scientific software.
Ideal background: PhD completed or near completion, a record of rigorous peer-reviewed research and the ambition to develop a distinctive scientific program.
Graduate Students
Students from Westlake University graduate programs are welcome to inquire about rotations and thesis projects. We help students build a personalized training path across experimental neuroscience, quantitative analysis and AI.
Visiting Students & Scholars
We welcome short- and medium-term visitors whose expertise can create a focused collaboration in neuroscience, imaging, engineering, computation or tool development.
What We Value
Intellectual independence · quantitative rigor · generous collaboration · reproducible research · open tools · willingness to learn outside your home discipline.
